Sob o tema “Minha identidade, Meu guarda-chuva”, a comunidade global de identidade reuniu-se em 16 de setembro para celebrar, refletir e defender a importância da identidade para todos. Em toda a África – e ao redor do mundo – diversas atividades marcaram a comemoração deste ano. De encontros presenciais a campanhas criativas online, o apoio foi forte, visível e inspirador. O tema deu origem a uma bela e dinâmica campanha fotográfica online, na qual centenas de indivíduos e comunidades mostraram com orgulho e entusiasmo como a identidade serve como proteção e empoderamento. The 2025 edition of ID Day was outstanding. Under the theme “My identity, My umbrella”, the global identity community came together on 16 September to celebrate, reflect, and advocate for the importance of identity for all. Across Africa – and around the world – diverse activities marked this year’s commemoration. From in-person gatherings to creative online campaigns, the support was strong, visible, and inspiring. L’édition 2025 de l’ID Day a été remarquable. Sous le thème « Mon identité, mon parapluie », la communauté mondiale de l’identité s’est réunie le 16 septembre pour célébrer, réfléchir et plaider en faveur de l’importance de l’identité pour toutes et tous. Legal identity, rooted in civil registration, is a foundational element for upholding human rights, providing protection, and ensuring access to essential government services. Despite its importance and its inclusion in Sustainable Development Goal 16.9, access remains uneven due to systemic barriers, administrative inefficiencies, and social exclusion. In the context of mobility, legal identity plays a critical role in facilitating safe, orderly and regular migration, aligning with Objective 4 of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM), while also serving as a lifeline for those forced to flee, such as refugees. The absence of legal identity—or barriers to obtaining it—can exacerbate vulnerabilities, especially for stateless individuals or those lacking proof of nationality. This session delves into the complex challenges of establishing and sustaining legal identity within the framework of migration and mobility.
